State Centre of Excellence (SCoE) for Integrated Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (IMSAM) established at Patna Medical College & Hospital, Bihar in October, 2016 in collaboration with the Department of Health, Government of Bihar and supported by UNICEF, Bihar. The concept of SCoE evolved to find the solutions for identifying the implementation gaps in management of SAM. It ensures integrated approach i.e prevention, inpatient treatment and community based care and management of SAM. The cardinal purpose of SCoE is to strengthen the State’s sustainable technical capacity on comprehensive management of SAM, to generate evidence based research, organise exposure visits and observership, conducts mentoring and supportive supervision through field visits. The analysed data is shared with the State officials for quality improvement of facility based management of SAM (FSAM) and community based care programme (SAMVARDHAN) in the state.
