Karnataka: State Centre of Excellence for Integrated Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMC & RI), Bangalore

State Centre of Excellence (SCoE) for Integrated Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition (IMSAM) established in September, 2019 at Vanivilas Hospital, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMC & RI), Karnataka with technical and financial support from UNICEF, Hyderabad. The Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Vanivilas hospital functions with super specialty services, maternal, vocational and social rehabilitation services under the Department of Pediatrics supported by National Health Mission, Karnataka. The SCoE functions as a knowledge hub by supporting the state for adherence of protocols as per the National Operational Guidelines for Management of SAM, provides technical and mentoring support to all 32 District NRCs and 49 Talukas/Blocks of Karnataka. The capacity building of health care professionals on Facility based Management of SAM, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and Maternal Nutrition is done and generates evidence by conducting studies, assessments, research and evaluations.
